My photographic hero in this world is Ansel Adams. A few years ago I went with some friends to the McMichael Canadian Art Collection to see some of Adams’ works along with a display by Edward Burtynsky. Burtynsky’s work is at a level of greatness of its own, but to see original large format prints by “the man” on display in an environment that was to his own specs (the walls had to be painted a certain colour and the lighting had to be a specific colour temperature) was a highlight of my photographic life that I’ll never forget.
In December of 2014, my good friend Mac challenged me to do a 365 project all in black and white. I was a little apprehensive since I did my own 365 project in 2012, which was actually 366, but I’m glad I did it. I’ve always had a deep appreciation for black and white photography and forcing myself to post one every day for a year only strengthened that appreciation.
